What The Critics Said: With praise particularly directed at the black comedy's innate originality and Anne Hathaway's gonzo performance, critics have called Colossal a true original.

Why It Actually Sucked: This is a prime example of an excellent premise poorly executed, for what begins as a unique character study about relationships and addiction eventually succumbs to its own schizophrenic tonal shifts and ham-fisted metaphors, which writer-director Nacho Vigalondo seems unable to competently juggle.

Colossal is absolutely one of those movies you'll want to like, and Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis certainly try hard, but they're left stranded in a film that's overlong and doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Unfortunately, uniqueness alone cannot sustain it.
