13 Disappointing Recent Films That Should've Been Great

What Was Expected

Another strong X-Men movie to continue the run of good movies the franchise has been delivering recently, with a strong cast and Bryan Singer in the director's chair.

What We Actually Got

A very mediocre X-Men installment, which is disappointing considering how consistent the franchise has often been in the past. First Class and Days of Future Past had been the best X-Men films to date at that point, so there was no reason for this to be so flat.

The truth is, this movie is just hollow, lacking an emotionally engaging story and is generic, thin superhero formula. As if that wasn't bad enough, Apocalypse is a pretty lame villain as well. When the film actually bothers going into emotionally compelling material, it's just the same old stuff about how hard it is to be a mutant and after 16 years, it all just feels very stale.

With no arcs and no dramatic weight, this movie is a narrative flop. The action can be fun, but much of it is messy and the final battle is just CGI nonsense. Wolverine once again mostly sits this one out and none of the great cast are at their best here at all.

Perhaps the most distracting thing of all is the talented Sophie Turner's terrible performance - as well as her hideous attempts at an American accent.
