13 Disturbing Disney Moments That Ruined Your Childhood
4. Pink Elephants - Dumbo
Dumbo, the quaint story of an outcast elephant with giant ears that learns to love his differences, is for the most part a heart-warming moral lesson in practising tolerance, and a celebration of our uniqueness as individuals. For one indulgent passage however, that all changes. Instead, we get a taken on a hallucinatory trip to the land of pink elephants.
Somehow making its way into a children's film despite being utterly mind-melting in its portrayal, the Pink Elephants scene comes after Dumbo has taken a sip of water laced with champagne, resulting in him blowing a bubble that then transforms into a trunk-trumpet-playing elephant in the sky. It soon melts and multiplies, bringing about a parade that stares out menacingly as they stamp around various psychedelic scenes that morph in and out of Dumbo's consciousness.
It's a kaleidoscope of disturbing imagery, blurring the lines of reality and imagination with sinister undertones all whilst dressed up in a pretty pink skin.
