13 Frustratingly Underrated Horror Movie Sequels

4. Unfriended: Dark Web

Final Destination 3
BH Tilt

Original Film:

Unfriended, a gimmicky but solid and underrated found-footage horror set entirely on a student's laptop screen.

Plot:

This has the same format but a completely different plot (it's unrelated to the first film's story). This time, a group of young people are manipulated in horrific ways by a trafficking ring through the dark web section of the internet.

Another 2018 movie, which isn't surprising. All the critics have been getting horror films wrong this year. A Quiet Place and Hereditary were over-praised, Ghost Stories wasn't acknowledged as the year's best horror film so far and both this and The First Purge were unfairly overlooked.

Unfriended: Dark Web is really rather good yet it's gone unnoticed. In fact, it was hard to even find a screening in the UK, so genre fans will probably waste their money on Slender Man instead while something far more worthy of their time goes unnoticed. What a shame.

While the laptop-presentation is gimmicky and the film can be a little too downbeat for its own good, it's still far better than expected. It boasts a highly tense, disturbing and twisty plot filled with likable characters and palpable stakes, while the relationship between the main character and his deaf girlfriend is surprisingly touching.

This is one shocking, hard-hitting horror flick that'll have you biting your nails and it's better than an already good original movie. Please, please watch this instead of Truth or Dare or Slender Man. You won't regret it.
