13 Frustratingly Underrated Horror Movie Sequels

2. Bride Of Chucky

Final Destination 3
Paramount

Original Film:

Child's Play, a silly but highly enjoyable 80s Slasher film featuring one of the all-time great horror villains in Brad Dourif's Chucky. Unfortunately, parts 2 and 3 were both pretty bad, although Chucky himself remained a joy to watch.

Plot:

Chucky is ressurected by Tiffany, his wife, and they head off to get a magical amulet that will allow them to transfer their souls into human bodies.

Bride of Chucky is great fun and while it jettisons the scares in favor of comedy, it's got more than enough entertainment to make up for that.

Dark, thrilling, demented and very funny, Bride of Chucky might actually be the best movie in the franchise (apologies to the original). It also boasts two brilliant vocal performances from the always-wonderful Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly and probably the best script the franchise has ever seen.

It's very much a film which takes inspiration from Scream and this, with its effective humor and on-point tone, actually feels like a better successor to Scream than the disappointing Scream 2 was.

This remains a very fun horror comedy... which somehow has only has 46% on Rotten Tomatoes and 5.3 on IMDb.

Unfortunately, 2004's Seed of Chucky was a complete fail that ruined the idea of a Chucky horror comedy. Two more direct-to-DVD films that returned to straight-forward horror have been released since and they've done better.
