13 Huge Mistakes That Are Killing The MCU

4. They Keep Ruining Past Characters

In terms of ruined characters, Wanda is easily the most egregious recent example but she's FAR from the only one. In fact, she's merely part of a wider problem in the recent MCU material. Where to even begin?

Ant-Man and the Wasp turned Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) into a detestable jerk, Captain Marvel's explanation for how Nick Fury lost his eye is one of the worst things in MCU history, and the long-awaited Black Widow solo movie failed to give her a compelling story or anything approaching a good send-off. If anything, the movie made a much-loved character kind of boring.

Furthermore, No Way Home turned Doctor Strange into a complete idiot and he was then a completely static character in Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder regressed Thor's character to a goofy buffoon, and Hawkeye ruined not one, but two fan favourites.

After stealing the show in Black Widow, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) was reduced to an absolutely insufferable quip machine - it's hard to make Florence Pugh tiresome, but somehow they did just that - and Kingpin, once a terrifying foe, became a neutered, slightly comical bad guy of the week.
