13 Huge Mistakes That Are Killing The MCU
5. The Multiverse Isn't Working
The multiverse concept is definitely what the MCU is focusing on right now, with the Phases 4-6 even being named as the 'Multiverse Saga' recently. Is this a good thing? Probably not.
To be fair, No Way Home and Loki did this concept very well, but that's because they kept things grounded and stayed (mostly) in one reality. In contrast, Doctor Strange 2 went for a full-on journey into the multiverse and it was a complete and utter mess that nuked any sense of stakes and the whole thing felt gimmicky and incoherent.
Furthermore, it's a lot harder to care about who lives and dies when we know full well one of a million other variants could pop up at any moment.
Look, let's be honest: multi-versal movies are usually messy; even a far better example of a journey into a multiverse, A24's Everything Everywhere All at Once, still had quite a huge stakes problem. It would really be much better if the MCU just stayed in one universe rather than indulging in further gimmicky, stakes-killing inter-dimensional travel.
Therefore, it's a huge shame that this is where the MCU is currently going. Let's just hope future MCU films are more grounded and simple, ala No Way Home and not like Doctor Strange 2, but then again, this franchise isn't exactly doing a good job of learning from its past mistakes right now.
