13 Huge Mistakes That Are Killing The MCU
6. The Villain Problem Is Back
In the past, perhaps the most unfair criticism of the MCU was the so-called 'Villain Problem'. Yes, many of the villains in Phases One and Two were flawed but most were OK at worst, and some were really excellent. Furthermore, Phase Three did a fantastic job with its villains.
But now, the MCU does have a villain problem - a real one. When it comes to antagonists, Phase 4 has been absolutely awful. Since the villains in No Way Home came from other movies, the only strong MCU film antagonist from this phase has been the Mandarin (Tony Leung).
The villains in Black Widow and Eternals were dreadful, Love and Thunder's villain (Christian Bale) was a missed opportunity despite Bale's strong work in the role, and as for Doctor Strange 2... that's still painful to speak about.
Wanda Maximoff's abrupt switch from hero to villain, which irreparably destroyed a once-likeable character and ruined her entire development in the MCU, is one of the worst mistakes in the history of this franchise. Seriously, what were the producers on when they actually approved that?
As for the shows, they've had some good villains, but also some pretty terrible ones.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Karli Morgenthau (Erin Kellyman), Loki's Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Hawkeye's Eleanor Bishop (Vera Farmiga) and a returning Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), and Ms. Marvel's Agent Deever (Alysia Reiner) were all garbage antagonists.
