7. Jonah Hex

Jonah Hex should have worked as a movie, considering the quiet successes of revisionist Westerns and the talent at the disposal of director Jimmy Hayward. But 12% on Rotten Tomatoes (and absolutely no clamour to overturn it) tells its own story.

It was too loud, too brash and too lazy by half and the characterisation was so poor - or so absent to be more accurate - that acting talent as highly rated as Brolin, Michael Fassbender and John Malkovich were embarrassingly bad. But at least they looked pretty good.

The film actually paid homage to its comic book origins faithfully in the production design and Josh Brolin's Jonah Hex looked amazing. The scarring make-up was delicious grotesque and real looking and Brolin looked like he'd stepped off the page. It's just a shame he happened to step onto this particular film set when he did.
