The awards circus won't start ramping up in earnest for a few more months yet, but it's fair to say that Damien Chazelle's Neil Armstrong biopic First Man is already considered a frontrunner for next year's Best Picture Oscar on pure rep alone.

From the fact that Chazelle won a Best Director Oscar for La La Land at the mere age of 32 - making him the youngest ever recipient of the award - to the all-star cast led by Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy, not to mention that superb first trailer, everything seems to be lining up perfectly so far.

Of course, nothing's ever set in stone: the film could end up being merely decent or a left-field project could steal its thunder by Christmas time, but as the Oscar race looks right now, First Man is probably the smart horse to back.
