12. Sir Patrick Morgan Is Ares - Wonder Woman

There are actually two pretty good twists in Wonder Woman, with the other major one coming in the shape of the Godkiller revelation (it's Diana, not the sword, silly). The more impactful one, though, is reserved for the grand reveal of her half-brother.

Provided you didn't pay any attention to the fairly ruinous spoilers ahead of the film's release, the twist that the seeming good-guy politician who funds Steve Trevor's secret mission to save the world is actually Ares, God Of War comes with a hell of a punch.

Up to that point, it looks like General Erich Ludendorff is the home-run choice of big bad, but it turns out he's too good to be true and when his death fails to stop the war, a reverse Russian Doll gambit reveals that actually there was a bigger one behind him all along.

Still, it might have been even more authentic a shock if he wasn't a duplicitous politician. Drain the swamp and all that.
