Nominations: Though the film has been widely-praised in almost every aspect, from its acting to the gorgeous cinematography, foreign films have a natural handicap that, except in the most extreme circumstances, relegate them to earning a sole Best Foreign Language Film nod. 1 nomination. The Win: It's a holocaust movie, which is always a huge box-tick for the Academy, and going by the rapturous response from the Cannes Film Festival (where it won the prestigious Grand Prix award), not to mention the insane critical reception (100% on Rotten Tomatoes with a 9.7/10 average), it's tough to see any other foreign film coming close to competing with this one. 1 win, but it's going to be an incredibly decisive one, no doubt.
