13 Movies So Awful You Walked Out Of The Cinema
9. Tree Of Life
There are lots of fans out there who would be willing to bleed in defence of Terrence Malick as a film-maker and who will insist that he's as important and poetic and brilliant a film-maker as has ever worked. They have their rights as film fans, even if his work is some of the most divisive that's ever been released.
Tree Of Life is a case in point: both critically lauded and booed when it debuted in Cannes (a place that usually LOVES self-indulgent art), it is considered both nonsense and genius depending on who you ask. Unfortunately for Malick, there's a very small spectrum of mainstream movie-goers who would fall into the latter category and the pedestrian pace and impenetrable weirdness alienated way too many.
For some, it was enough to send them to the exits early.
