13 Movies You Really Wanted To Hate (But Actually Couldn’t)

2. The Lego Movie

People of all ages love Lego, since it’s hard to hate a toy that requires crafting and encourages creativity. It’s doubtful anyone was pining for a feature-length film based on the brand, with the whole concept sounding like some horrible corporate scheme to shift some toys.

Why You Wanted To Hate It: It sounded like the studio were just making a really long toy ad, and paying big names like Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman to lend it some credibility. Early pictures made it look like a cutesy, brightly coloured nightmare too.

The Reasons You Couldn’t: Your old pals Phil Lord and Chris Miller came through once again, making The Lego Movie an irresistible adventure stuffed with laughs and emotion. The movie moves at lightning speed, meaning you could watch it several times and still miss out on some gags, and the cast managed to make you care about tiny plastic toy people; which is maybe the biggest triumph of all.
