5. Ouija: Origin Of Evil

Ouija boards are kind of outdated when it comes to giving audiences the frights, so when Blumhouse finally made a horror movie based on the idea, it didn’t exactly sound cutting edge. It also didn’t help that the film was an utter pile of crap, complete with bad acting, lousy jump scares and a total lack of suspense; more like Ouija bored! (Sorry)

Yet it made money, so a sequel was announced.

Why You Wanted You Wanted To Hate It: Since the original was a turkey, and prequels rarely top the original. It looked like a quick and easy cash-in on the surprise success of the first one, designed simply to make a release date.

The Reasons You Couldn’t: Blumhouse were well aware of the reaction to Ouija, so they decided to turn the sequel over to a talented filmmaker, and let him do whatever the hell he wanted. So Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus) delivered a creepy, tense supernatural thriller with some expert scares and likeable characters; a feat the original never managed to pull off.
