If there's one thing Nicolas Cage fans can practically rely on like clockwork, it's that no matter what kind of film the guy is starring in, be it good, mediocre or worst of the year, he's going to most likely do something interesting. Just look at "so bad it's good" classics like The Wicker Man, Drive Angry and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance: Cage is hilariously bonkers in each, and helps make each of these films eminently watchable even though they are by all classic standards absolutely terrible. Sadly, his latest movie, an ill-advised remake of the bible-bashing, Kirk Cameron-starring Left Behind series, is more like a Season of the Witch, Trespass or Stolen, in that it finds the famously eccentric actor in a strangely sedate mode, taking himself dead seriously and being much less entertaining as a result. Though there's a certain appeal to Cage as an everyman pilot trying to save the day, he's totally phoning it in for the payday here, and given how shoddy the rest of the movie looks, it's safe to assume that he ate up an unhealthy portion of that $16 million budget. A distressingly boring effort for an actor renowned for his riotously enjoyable performances in bad movies, hopefully this is just a rare blip for the actor, and he'll be back to his barmy usual self soon enough. Which sucky performances do you see as most deserving of Razzies? Shout it out in the comments!
