13 Potentially Terrifying Horror Films Coming Out In 2018
1. The Nun
2014’s Annabelle didn’t exactly light the litmus paper in terms of The Conjuring-verse blowing up as a franchise. But, then, The Conjuring 2 was released in 2016, building on its predecessor with a tighter, more claustrophobic horror experience and then the doll that won’t die came out swinging her pigtails with last year’s Annabelle: Creation – a spin-off sequel that was superior in pretty much every way possible. Suddenly, this was a dark, foreboding world that we wanted to keep visiting.
Taking its main ghoul from The Conjuring 2 and adopting Creation’s prequel format, The Nun heads to 1950s Romania and sees how that rascal Valak travelled from eastern Europe, to a council house in Enfield. Taissa Farmiga - sister of Vera – has been cast as the would be Valak-vanquisher, Sister Irene, in a plot that sees her investigating the suicide of a nun and the prospect of true evil invading her convent.
New Line Cinema are once again spot on with their choice of director, handpicking another rising talent in The Hallow’s Corin Hardy to helm the latest in this burgeoning franchise. While a trailer is yet to creep up on us, there’s nothing creepier than a period setting and in screeching nun Valak we have an instantly iconic baddie to be afraid of. Not only will this be the highest grossing horror movie of the year, it’ll also be the scariest.
