13 Things Hollywood Always Gets Wrong About Film Fans

7. Audiences Will Not Pay For Films About The Dying

Every year, new films are introduced to showcase a person's private tragedy - harrowing life experiences, horrendous illnesses, personal pain. Yet, these films rarely turn a profit or incite audiences to pay heavy attendance fees to witness these on the big screen and Hollywood is often left to wondering why? What they seem to not realize is that those paying audience members each already have their own private hell to live in. They do not need more pain and suffering when they venture out of whatever turmoil they are going through and sit down in their favourite movie seat. They assuredly do not want to pay for it, because crucially, those audiences want to get away from it all for a few hours, not chase those painful reminders down, only to be reminded and relive them. Keep churning these movies out if you want, we know you love the heaping awards that come with movies like this. Just know that, with rare exception, audiences will not choose to spend 2 hours of their escapist time suffering with fictional people when they each have plenty of their own suffering they already must contend with on a regular basis. Stick to what you do best, make us smile. And blow something up.
