13 Things Hollywood Always Gets Wrong About Film Fans

6. Not All Audiences Want To Recapture Their Youth

We all love those ageing action beasts like Arnold, Sly or Bruce, but audiences just cannot watch these films anymore without worrying they are going to break a hip. Studios seem to go forward with the 'It's fiction, go with it' mentality, but that is very hard to do when all of these guys are old enough to have grandkids and a Life Alert bracelet. Who wants to watch Grandpa get up on a tanker and start mowing down foreign mercenaries? You want him to get inside where it is warm, throw on Wheel of Fortune and drink up his Metamucil. All of that 'Saving the World' nonsense is bad for his heart. Not to mention, it is inevitable that one of these guys is going to forget which side he is on and then we have even bigger political implications when they 'accidentally' blow up our international friends. As films like Bullet to the Head, The Last Stand and Red 2 can attest, the days of the ageing action hero have come to an end. Or at least they should have. The same can be said for creating sequels to films from 10 or 15 years ago (think Wall Street, Rambo). Those films are a product of their time, and that is where they should remain, and a lapse in original ideas is no reason to drudge up random films in hopes to reinvigorate a franchise. Audiences will always love these heroes and everything they have given us over the years. Unfortunately, their time is past and the new it is time to keep these franchises and characters in the memory bank where they belong. Keep these guys comfortable, safe, and away from high explosives. It's what is best for the world.
