Without the sure-handed direction of Steven Soderbergh, there's a good chance that Magic Mike could have been the male equivalent of Showgirls. Instead, it managed to be a surprisingly artful, well-acted tale of one man's attempts to make a life for himself, while slotting in plenty of bare-chested males for the ladies who flocked to see it in droves. The film was a surprising critical success and made an insane $167 million against a mere $7 million budget, causing a sequel to promptly be greenlit. Though Soderbergh is off doing other things, Tatum will be returning for the hilariously-titled Magic Mike XXL, with Second Unit Director Greg Jacobs taking the director's chair this time. There's little doubt this sequel will again be a success, though given how the first movie ended (with Mike quitting stripping), it's going to seem rather convoluted for him to be pulled back into the fray for another movie. As for who else will be joining him, that remains to be seen.
