13 Upcoming Superhero Movies That Could Beat Civil War
8. The LEGO Batman Movie
Why It Could Beat Civil War: After he ended up being one of the most entertaining aspects of The LEGO Movie, it makes total sense that Will Arnett's gravelly-voiced take on the Dark Knight would get his own film.
There's plenty to be excited about: the LEGO Movie's animation co-director Chris McKay is helming, while the cast is filled out by Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Michael Cera (Robin), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Zach Galifianakis (The Joker) and Mariah Carey (Gotham City's Mayor). Plus, the teaser trailer released looks hysterically funny.
If you've had enough of all the hand-wringing about collateral damage in recent superhero movies, this looks to be a riotously entertaining retort to it. If the genre satire is strong, this could be just as good as the film that spawned it.
Why It Might Not: Firstly, it's written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the guy responsible for Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Then there's the fact that, while Batman worked extremely well in an ensemble movie, he might not fare so well when he's the main focus. Perhaps the joke will feel one-note and played out over 90 minutes.
