13 Worst Movie Performances Of 2018
9. Deric McCabe (A Wrinkle In Time)
It's never fun to dump on a child actor, especially one who's just got their big break in Hollywood, but Deric McCabe's performance in Disney's dud A Wrinkle in Time is...not good. Not good at all.
McCabe plays protagonist Meg's (Storm Reid) precocious younger brother Charles Wallace, and he delivers a masterclass in everything a child actor absolutely shouldn't do.
Even ignoring his irritatingly high-pitched voice - he's a kid, after all - he wildly exaggerates every single line of dialogue, which alone should've given director Ava DuVernay a moment for pause.
Things get a whole lot worse later in the movie when Charles Wallace becomes a surrogate for the antagonist, causing McCabe to attempt to be threatening and imposing, which he's patently incapable of pulling off.
You'll laugh, you'll cringe and you'll wonder how the casting department settled on this actor. There are clearly roles McCabe would be fine for, but a lead role in a $130 million Disney blockbuster? Not a chance.
