13 Worst Performances In Otherwise Awesome Blockbusters

6. Cameron Diaz (Jenny Everdeane) - Gangs Of New York

Storm Halle Berry
Miramax

The Movie: This ambitious, big-budget period drama doesn't rank up top with director Martin Scorsese's very best movies, but it's still a riotously entertaining, savage film driven by Daniel Day-Lewis' unforgettable, Oscar-nominated performance as Bill "The Butcher" Cutting.

The Performance: Diaz is hilariously miscast here as pickpocket and con-woman Jenny Everdeane, failing to slip into the period setting and basically sticking out like a sore thumb with her comical accent above all else.

It doesn't help that her character isn't especially necessary to the plot's core function, and it's hard not to feel like the Weinsteins cast her in a (failed) attempt to capture the female demographic.

It's frustrating as Diaz is a frequently underrated actress, but here her risible work was justifiably torn asunder by critics.
