When you think of isolation there are a few places that come to mind, the desert, the frozen waste of Antarctica, space and also the largest and most northerly American State: Alaska. Although the largest state by land mass Alaska is also the fourth least populated and the least densely populated of all 50 states. The majority of its inhabitants live in and around the Anchorage area meaning Alaska's reputation as one of the great wildernesses is richly deserved. Several films have been set in the 49th State, one which most effectively captures the unforgiving harshness of nature and the dangers of isolating one's self entirely is Sean Penn's 2009 film Into The Wild. Penn's film is based upon the true story of Christopher McCandless, who left his comfortable Ivy League upbringing to travel around North America and live in the wilds of Alaska. Emile Hirsch plays McCandless to great effect, against the backdrop of Eddie Vedder's beautiful yet haunting soundtrack.
As well as the odd article, I apply my "special mind" to scriptwriting for Comics, Films and Games... Oh and I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I like to press wild flow'rs, I put on women's clothing, and hang around in bars.
