Darth Plagueis doesn't actually appear in any of the Star Wars movies, but his legend is so significant and influential that his rightful place as one of the most powerful entities in the galaxy absolutely cannot be denied.

Master to Darth Sidious, Plagueis' powers were so extensive that he was apparently able to even manipulate midi-chlorians to both create life and prevent death, a near-unprecedented, mythic feat that alone makes him a legendarily powerful character.

It speaks volumes that Sidious eventually assassinated him in his sleep, because had a battle actually taken place between the two, who's to say who would've come out on top.
