A lot of these posters are highly misleading about the film’s content, but here’s one that contains what is very clearly just a blatant, factual lie that can easily be disputed.
The poster for this horrible Lloyd Kaufman sex comedy The First Turn-On, boasts that it stars Academy Award Nominee Vincent D'Onofrio. If that sounds wrong, that’s because it is: though he’s a great actor, D'Onofrio has never been nominated for an Academy Award. He certainly hadn’t been nominated at the time, as The First Turn-On was his first film.
Imagine having the gall to just blatantly lie to audiences and claim one of your actors was nominated for an award when he wasn’t. This was back before the Internet was around, so maybe Troma just assumed nobody would have the means to check and would take their word for it, because who would lie about something like that?
