14 Simple Fixes That Could Have Made Suicide Squad Awesome

1. Just Be More Silly

The Problem

Despite being a Suicide Squad movie - which is one of the most deranged, silly comic series of all time - David Ayer ended up having to make something more fitting to Zack Snyder's image of the DCEU and grounded it a little too much in reality.

That wasn't the right way to go, considering the comics saw the Squad battle dinosaurs and various more daft villains, including a giant cyclops.

The Solution

Suicide Squad should have been defined by difference, and being a lot more silly would have served it well. Consider Deadpool: a film that was a difficult sell if it was going to be made in traditional superhero movie terms. It wasn't, Fox dialled up the silliness and the outrageous elements and it was a triumphant success.

Ayer's film should have embraced more of the humour and controversy of the comics, and not cared so much about fitting an established tone - particularly since Warner Bros then apparently strode in and insisted on more humour and levity, making for an awful disjointed experience.

That silliness doesn't mean a CGI villain stomping around with no human element (ie Incubus), but rather a more outrageous, unified tone. It's not rocket science, just actually deliver on the idea of being a wildcard movie, and have a threat that actually warrants a black ops Suicide Squad mission, rather than just something any old hero could sort out.
