Why It Should Suck: A Bruce Willis-starring remake of Charles Bronson's iconic 1974 revenge thriller doesn't exactly muster much confidence these days, considering he'll take any low-budget, straight-to-VOD thriller that'll pay him enough.

Plus, it's not like the Bronson movie was exactly a classic or anything, and remaking a mediocre movie rarely results in cinematic fireworks.

Why It Might Be Awesome: There are actually quite a few promising aspects to this film, namely that Eli Roth is an interesting director to tackle this kind of material, and it's being written by Roth alongside Joe Carnahan (Narc, The Grey), who certainly has a distinctive creative voice.

Surprisingly, it hasn't been watered down to a PG-13 with Willis as the star, and the supporting cast includes Vincent D'Onofrio, Dean Norris and Elisabeth Shue, so there's clearly talent to spare here.

It's not impossible for Roth to create a very different Death Wish movie for 2017, perhaps one with more satirical content, or one that at least acknowledges the fetishistic tone of the original film.
