2. The Last Thing He Wanted

The Last Thing He Wanted
Netflix

Can we be the first to say this dud was the last thing we wanted? Ayo!

Alright fine so it’s been done, but good God is this interminably overlong and inexplicably self-satisfied political thriller more than deserving of that easy dunk. In an age when Adam McKay’s searing satire Vice saw fit to cinematically savage the architects of the more-recent Iraq War whilst somehow maintaining humour and pathos, this Anne Hathaway vehicle saw the actor play a reporter who's forced to act as a middle man for the Iran Contra arms deal.

So, does it offer a full throated attack on the amoral crimes of the US government during this era? Nah, why bother when you can make this horror story into the story of a rich woman learning her dad is a bad person before getting (spoilers) merc’d in the film’s closing moments?

Stirring stuff, Netflix.
