14 WTF Moments From 2018's Summer Blockbusters

10. That Insanely Creepy Short Film, Bao - Incredibles 2

If you saw Incredibles 2 this summer, you probably remember the controversial, rather disturbing short film Pixar placed in front of it, Bao.

The short follows a Canadian-Chinese woman who makes a dumpling which magically comes to life. She subsequently raises it as a regular child, and it goes through all the usual growing-up rituals you'd expect, culminating with the dumpling wishing to move out with its fiancee.

And here comes the twist: the mother then eats the dumpling whole.

After a few moments, it's revealed that the story was (thankfully) an allegory, and the woman's real son enters the room, comically bearing a strong resemblance to the dumpling. They make amends and everyone's happy again, the end.

As a potent statement on the debilitating power of "empty nest syndrome", this was one of Pixar's better recent shorts. For a moment, though, that apparent act of kinda-cannibalism really felt like a dark step too far for the studio.
