15 Actors Who Could Be The Breakout Stars Of 2015

10. Joel Edgerton

Unlike most of the others on this list, Joel Edgerton is already an established film actor with a number of big movies on his CV. He was Uncle Owen in two Star Wars films, for example. However, he still seems to be awaiting the movie that will make his name. While Warrior won critical praise it flopped at the box office and The Great Gatsby may have been a commercial success, but its critical rejection overall has not helped Edgerton's career. 2015 began with Ridley Scott's epic version of Exodus (actually released at the tail end of 2014, but still in cinemas as the new year began). The white Australian actor was controversially cast as Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses and the film met with mixed reviews, but it did at least give Edgerton a lead role in a high earning blockbuster. Meanwhile, he has four more films lined up for this year, each of which could finally make him a bigger star. Working with a number of interesting directors, like Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) on gangster thriller Black Mass, Jeff Nichols (Mud) on "grounded sci-fi" Midnight Special, and Anton Corbijn (Control) on James Dean drama Life, gives him plenty of chances for that breakthrough role. Then there will finally be a release for troubled Natalie Portman western Jane Got A Gun in which Edgerton switched from playing the villain to a hero part way through production. Only time will tell whether that was a sensible move.
