15 Actors Who Were FIRED From Movies During Production
7. Janeane Garofalo - Shrek
SNL legend Chris Farley was the original voice of the titular ogre in Shrek, but after the zany comedian suddenly passed away the filmmakers replaced him with Mike Myers.
This may be common knowledge, but many Shrek fans don't realise Farley wasn't the only person recast. Janeane Garofalo, known for her work on The Larry Sanders Show and Mystery Men, was meant to play Shrek's love interest, Princess Fiona.
Even though she had recorded her lines, the Emmy-nominated comedian was replaced with Cameron Diaz after Myers was brought in. To date, Garofalo has never received an explanation why she lost her job.
Because a lot of the plot was changed when the Austin Powers star was hired, it's possible Fiona's character was revised and the filmmakers felt like Garofalo's voice no longer suited the role. In Garofalo's opinion, she may have been let go because there are times where her voice "sounds like a man".
