15 Announced Movies That Are Destined For Development Hell
5. Pacific Rim 2
Status So Far: The sequel to Guillermo del Toro's modestly successful monster flick has been talked about since the movie managed to double its budget at the box office. The release date is provisionally set for 7 April 2017, and the script is apparently pretty much done. Why It's Destined For Development Hell: Because it's a miracle that del Toro even got to make one $190 million movie about robots fighting giant monsters, and though Pacific Rim made a profit, most of that was from the international market, which Warner Bros. will have taken less revenue from. As a result, they probably won't be falling over themselves to actually get this movie made at a $200 million price point, and considering del Toro's admirable commitment to retaining his integrity at all costs on projects, he might not be willing to compromise where Warner will ask him to. With it being up in the air how much of the original cast will return, there are so many question marks surrounding this project, which could easily cause Warner to lose interest or not consider it worth their investment.
