Status So Far: The long-gestating sequel to Danny Boyle's 1996 crime comedy Trainspotting has been talked about seriously by Boyle and Ewan McGregor for about 3 years now. Everyone seems keen to get it made, but development has been a long slog. Why It's Destined For Development Hell: The creative aspect is the trickiest thing here: Boyle himself has declared that Porno will be only loosely based on Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name, which he said is "not a great book in the way that Trainspotting, the original novel, is genuinely a masterpiece". Also, there's a clear desire by Welsh and Boyle not to tarnish the legacy of the original, so if they can't crack the story in a way they all agree on, expect the movie to languish around in limbo forever more. Not to mention, if most of the principal cast are returning, scheduling filming on this thing is going to be an utter nightmare.
