15 Announced Movies That Will Probably Never Happen
14. Akira
What We Know: Warner Bros. have been trying to get a live-action Akira adaptation made since 2002, and the most recent updates suggest that Marco Ramirez (an executive producer and writer on Netflix's Daredevil) will write the film, while The Fast and the Furious' Justin Lin is being courted to direct.
Why It Won't Happen: Akira is just too complex a property to adapt to the "real world", and considering the rather high likelihood that next year's live-action Ghost in the Shell adaptation will flop or at the very least make modest returns (regardless of how good it is), that could very easily scare Warner Bros. off entirely.
When a film takes this long to get made, perhaps it's just best if they scrap the idea altogether.
