15 Average Oscar Bait Films Elevated By Amazing Performances
9. Judy
Judy is a perfectly decent and reasonably moving biopic of Judy Garland (the film covers Judy Garland's stage work in London during the final year of her life), but it is ultimately a forgettable, uneven drama that mainly exists as a vehicle for a performance. Luckily, Renee Zellweger's performance as Judy Garland is something to behold.
Having disappeared from screens for many years, Zellweger is back and judging by this, that's a good thing. She gives a remarkably moving and sensitive performance as a much-loved historical figure and she fully conveys just how tragic Garland's life story was.
As average as the rest of the movie is, Renee Zellweger's performance succeeded in making it a touching viewing and while she doesn't necessarily deserve to win the Best Actress Oscar (which will hopefully go to Saoirse Ronan for Little Women), her nomination was definitely justified.
