15 Awesome Batman Characters We Still Haven’t Seen On Film

8. Renee Montoya a.k.a The Question

In the old days, Renee Montoya was a detective for the GCPD and was partnered with another popular character Harvey Bullock who€™s also yet to appear on the big screen (more on him later). She was originally assigned to the Major Crimes Unit which gave her frequent exposure to the Batman. Later in the continuity, Montoya was forcibly outed as a lesbian resulting in her leaving the GCPD, disgusted at the state it was in. Montoya was criminally overlooked in Nolan€™s Batman franchise, despite being one of the more dramatically important members of the GCPD (after Jim Gordon of course) and she also featured heavily in Batman: The Animated series. She€™s never a primary character of course, but as far as supporting characters go, she€™s one of the more popular and consistently recurring. She has a future after the GCPD of course (she goes on to become The Question, main canon DC€™s much less violent answer to Watchmen€™s Rorschach) however, it€™s as a gay female police officer that she€™d fit most neatly into Batman movie continuity. If I was making the next Batman movie (there€™s still hope€ right?) I€™d personally pose her as an openly lesbian cop who suffers horrible indignities at the hands of her fellow officers, exposing the fact that even post Nolan continuity, the GCPD is still a broken institution and by extension, Gotham still needs a Batman.
