15 Awesome Death Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Movies

12. Taye Diggs Loses His Face - Equilibrium

The Christian Bale-starring sci-fi actioner was largely panned by critics for being a rather goofy and thoughtless 1984 knock-off, but there's one memorable death in the film's loony climax that's tough to forget.

After hero John Preston (Bale) fights his way to big bad Vice-Counsel DuPont (Angus Macfayden), he's forced to do battle with his former partner, Brandt (Taye Diggs).

The two get ready to square off, but the fight lasts all of three seconds, as Preston outsmarts Brandt and ends the battle with three simple slashes at his adversary.

It's not immediately clear what's happened, but a few moments later Brandt drops to his knees and half his face literally falls off from where Preston sliced it.

Sure, the CGI is pretty rough, but it's an undeniably bada** and unexpectedly hilarious moment in a movie that too often takes itself way too seriously.
