15 Awesome Death Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Movies

10. Elevator Overkill - Poseidon

When it comes to overkill in a movie, though, the 2006 Poseidon remake is hard to top. When Richard Dreyfuss' character is hanging out of an elevator shaft with poor Freddy Rodriguez clinging to his leg, he has no other choice than to kick Rodriguez loose in order to save his own life.

So, Rodriguez is kicked, falls several hundred feet down the shaft, is impaled by metal shrapnel at the bottom, and that's just the start of it.

A falling elevator then careens down the shaft and crushes him, which also triggers a giant explosion, ensuring that, yes, he wouldn't be back for any potential sequel.

More than a decade on, the visual effects have aged surprisingly well, and the scene is packed with unexpected moral ambiguity which makes it that much more compelling. Shame the rest of the movie didn't follow its lead.
