15 Awesome Horror Movies With Lower Critical Scores Than They Deserve
11. 47 Meters Down

Metacritic: 52
The shark movie is possibly the worst horror subgenre of all.
Firstly, they give sharks a far worse reputation than they deserve and secondly, around 95% of them suck. 47 Meters Down is one of the only good shark films ever, but unfortunately many might immediately assume it's just another weak offering from these fairly middling critical scores and pass it by. They definitely shouldn't do that.
It might not be a five-star film thanks to thin characters and an annoying ending, but 47 Meters Down is still so much better than it had any right to be. It has a great premise - two sisters are trapped in a shark cage on the ocean's floor and being stalked by sharks - and gets every possible thrill out of it, making this a nerve-shredding, unbearably tense and claustrophobic thrill ride that never comes up for air.
Sure, it's a B-Movie at the end of the day but it still deserved more credit. After all, 2016's The Shallows (another one of the only good shark movies) is slightly worse than this and got generally positive reviews so surely this one should've done too?
