15 Awesome Horror Movies With Lower Critical Scores Than They Deserve

7. Shutter

Saw Fresh

Rotten Tomatoes: 59% (Average Score: 5.03/10)

This is another bizarre case, since this is a respected horror movie among genre fans and a minor classic of Asian horror cinema, yet it only got mixed reviews from critics.

Shutter has some issues in terms of its plot but it is overall a very scary film indeed and it boasts some fantastic jump scares too. Meanwhile, the film's ghost story, like all of the best ones, is moving and features a terrific ghost who is as terrifying as they as they are sympathetic.

The final twist is pretty great as well - you'll never see it coming.

In general, this is a well-made and reasonably well-written horror movie and it only getting mixed reviews was bizarre. Remember, this came out in the mid-noughties and you'd think critics would be delighted to see a well-done supernatural film, but sadly not.

This is another case where the IMDb score (7.1) is considerably more accurate.
