Bride of Chucky is a hysterically funny horror comedy that critics, sadly, just didn't seem to connect to at all.

Yes, it's a radical tonal shift from the first three Child's Play films and it isn't scary at all, but if you view it as what it is - a horror-comedy that emphasises laughs, not scares - then Bride of Chucky is a complete blast and the best Chucky film to date.

With a razor-sharp script, strong performances, great jokes and even a fair bit of suspense, this is as delightful as horror movies get. Hell, even the teenage leads aren't annoying at all and are very endearing.

The criticism seemed to be aimed at the total lack of scares, so perhaps the mixed reviews were a result of people being surprised at the franchise's change of direction. Still, a film shouldn't be dismissed just because it wasn't what people were expecting.

Also, scares aren't always essential for a great horror film. Carrie, The Wicker Man, Kill List, Dawn of the Dead, Scream and Get Out are among the best horror movies ever and none of them are scary in the traditional sense.
