15 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (That Aren't Blockbusters)

4. Stuber

Stuber Dave Bautista Kumail Nanjiani
Fox

Release Date: July 12

The Plot: A buddy cop comedy in which nervy Uber driver Stu (Kumail Nanjiani) picks up Detective Vic (Dave Bautista), who needs Stu to help him chase down a murderous terrorist (Iko Uwais).

Why It's Going To Be Awesome: We're still waiting for Stuber's first trailer, but the fact that it's getting a work-in-progress premiere at the SXSW festival four months before its theatrical release is surely an encouraging sign of its quality.

Stuber might not tout a particularly unique premise, but the oddball pairing of Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista is incredibly interesting, and one suspects they might be able to riff off one another brilliantly.

Moreover, it sounds like the Uber aspect might play into the film quite a bit and potentially help differentiate the movie from other genre efforts. If it can do this without seeming like an explicit advert for the company, then all the better.

Michael Dowse (Goon, What If?) directs, so the potential for an agreeably offbeat comedy is strong. Plus, Dave Bautista vs. Iko Uwais? Sold.
