15 Bafflingly Low Rotten Tomatoes Scores You Won't Believe

9. Home Alone (54%)

Critical Consensus: "If Home Alone had limited itself to the things that might possibly happen to a forgotten 8-year-old, I think I would have liked it more." - Roger Ebert Why It€™s Wrong: Because while the premise of a family leaving one of their clan at home as they jet off on holiday is totally absurd, you have to either just get on board with it or not. If you do accept it, you'll be introduced to the fine comic talent that is Macaulay Culkin, as he spends a riotously entertaining 103 minutes fending off Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) in an array of amusingly brutal ways. It's one of those films which, if you grew up with it, you probably would never have expected it to receive such mixed notices from critics. Why The Critics Hated It: Outlandishness was the main complaint among critics, as well as the violence of the movie which some saw as "troubling" given that the protagonist was a child, and it was naturally going to be seen by many children. Oh, how those same critics must've hated the decidedly more brutal sequel...
