4. Star Trek Beyond – Touching Leonard Nimoy Tribute

Greasy Strangler

Not a death scene per se, but the news of Spock Prime’s death in Star Trek Beyond is such a befitting tribute to the late, great Leonard Nimoy that it would be a crime not to include it. After Nimoy’s death in 2015, the makers of Star Trek Beyond knew they wanted to pay tribute in some way to the actor that helped make the Star Wars franchise what it is today. But rather than employ some weird Tupac Shakur-style hologram tricks, they did it in a tasteful and touching scene in which Zachary Quinto’s younger Spock is informed of Spock Prime’s death and given his personal effects, even shedding a few very un-Vulcan like tears.

The tribute was apparently very cathartic for Quinto and his fellow cast members who worked with Nimoy on the first two instalments of the Star Trek reboot series. Quinto said of the scene, ‘They were certainly authentic expressions of my sadness. It’s not easy to lose someone so dear as Leonard. I was grateful to have somewhere to put that.’
