Coming from the lens of I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House helmer/ son of Norman Bates Oz Perkins, this twisted and gorgeously filmed fever dream of a film retells the titular fairy tale with a few added twists in the tale, but don't go in expecting to be bogged down by plot and incident.

This one is a mood piece, calling to mind the equally evocative and chilling likes of Robert Eggers' debut The Witch with its stunning photography, small cast, and languid pace. More visceral than the director's most recent work, this flick succeeds thanks to a brilliant central turn from IT actor/ rising star Sophia Lillis as the conflicted eponymous heroine.
