7. Misbehaviour

Harley Quinn Birds Of Prey
BFI Films

Following in the well worn footsteps of fellow British social commentary/ feel good comedy period pieces such as Pride and Made in Dagenham, Misbehaviour could have easily ended up feeling flat and familiar were it not for the impeccable cast.

Built around a pair of stunning turns from Kiera Knightley and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the film tells the story of the landmark 1970 Miss World competition, the year the controversial beauty contest named its first black winner in history.

With sparkling wit and some incisive commentary, the film avoids the pitfalls of melodramatic biopics by keeping the story tight and uplifting, as well as regularly utilising its secret weapon in the form of sleazy villain Greg Kinnear.
