15 Best Pieces Of Movie Music From 2018

5. "Reborn" - Hereditary (Colin Stetson)

Hereditary Alex Wolff

Ari Aster's directorial debut is pure, undilluted anxiety in cinematic form, and Colin Stetson's nervy score contributes significantly to establishing the mood throughout this one-of-a-kind horror film.

Though many scenes play out with no music at all, Stetson's work is employed to terrifically shrewd effect in fits and starts, eventually paying off the film's intense finale with a suitably nerve-rattling closing track.

"Reborn" plays out during the film's ending as Peter (Alex Wolff) is possessed by the demon Paimon, and perfectly cements the climactic feeling of anxious dread which everything in the film has been building up to.
