15 Best Romantic Films On Netflix Right Now
5. Ghost
While also serving as a decent murder mystery, Ghost goes down as one of the best romantic movies of the early 90's. The first of two Patrick Swayze entries on the list, the film brought to life what is undoubtedly the sexiest and hottest pottery scene in film history. The key to the film's success is the simmering chemistry between Swayze and Demi Moore, who do not hold back in any of the romantic scenes as madly in love couple Sam and Molly.
The seemingly random murder of Sam sets up the murder mystery and embezzlement story arc to follow, with Sam remaining on Earth as a ghost, presumably to look after his love who is the murderer's next target. Full credit must go to Moore, who makes her Molly's grief feel truly believable, thus heightening the romantic aspects of the finale. The twist reveal of who is behind the murders and embezzlement adds more weight to proceedings, while also delivered early enough for it to truly impact the film's events.
The film proved a breakout performance for Whoopi Goldberg, who plays the much needed comic relief as the fake medium 'Old Mae', who receives a shock when she actually hears the voice of a ghost. The comical back and forth between Goldberg and Swayze is consistently strong, but it is the gooey eyes between Swayze and Moore, especially in that pottery scene, that is the real highlight.
