3. Dirty Dancing

The Notebook
Vestron Pictures

While the title may be extremely misleading, this film is close to perfect in delivering a classic interpretation of the 'good girl falls in love for the bad boy' story arc. Featuring Patrick Swayze at his most dynamic as suave Dance Instructor Johnny Castle and Jennifer Grey perfect cast as girl next door Baby Houseman, the film delivers some of cinema's iconic moments and one of its greatest ever lines.

While the dynamics of the dance instructors travails and the conflict between Baby and her father are interesting enough, the film lights up when it concentrates on Johnny's delivery of lessons on dancing and love to his young muse. Swayze and Grey prove to be one of the great movie couplings, the potentially awkward age differential becoming a non issue for the audience due to the pair's natural chemistry.

The epic conclusion to the film is what most remember, Johnny delivering the iconic line- "Nobody leaves Baby in a corner"- before delivering the perfect dance routine, with Baby finally executing the perfect leap for a perfect finish. The only reason the movie doesn't get top spot on this list is due to the abortion subplot that takes up a lot of the film's second act, which feels totally out of kilter with the rest of the movie.
